HBTE contains dark themes. So before reading, please consider all triggers and check in with your mental health. You matter!
  • Triggers include Grief, violence, blood, torture, death, PTSD episodes, Emotion & physical abuse, Sexual assault( mentioned in passing several times), difficult pregnancy contributing to the end of a mother’s life, profanity, and sexually explicit content. It ends on a cliffhanger.

Hidden Beneath the Embers is a fast-paced debut full of magic, mystery, and danger. It has the adventure and quest for answers of popular YA novels, but with the romance and spice, I love in adult fantasy. The plot twists kept me on my toes, and the characters feel like the kind of found family I’d love to be a part of. I’m excited to see where this series goes!

If you are looking for a story about a badass female who searches for answers to unravel her past, with secrets and battles and magic and romance, this is for you. I love how this story emphasizes the strength a female can have, with just a little bit of knowledge, love, and of course, fire. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you wanting more in the end.

Fay’s debut novel is one of my favorite fantasy novels I read this year. My favorite part was that it was so easy to follow which is a complaint I have with most fantasy novels. It takes the lore we all know and love and turns it on its head. Davyna is a strong, sassy badass heroine! This book gives you all the drama, action, smut, and slow burn you can ask for with a thought-provoking storyline you cannot get enough of! Highly recommend this 5-star read!
